## RMS: ¿Cómo el Partido Pirata Sueco backfires las plataformas en software libre?

El presidente de la FSF, Richard Stallman, explica esas interacciones no deseadas
entre el Partido Pirata sueco de la plataforma y el software libre en su nuevo artículo titulado, "¿Cómo el Partido Pirata Sueco Backfires las plataformas en el software libre ".

Dado que actualmente el software libre se basa en que el copyleft protege la libertad del software, mientras que el software propietario tiene otros medios más allá de los derechos de autor para mantener a los usuarios restringidos (como las patentes y EULAS), la eliminación de los derechos de autor que protegen el software propietario, produce un daño en la libertad del uso del software. Los usuarios nunca llegan a tener el código fuente del software propietario, mientras que las compañías de software propietario se permiten, abiertamente, saquear el del mundo libre.

## El apoyo de Dailymotion a Ogg, es un gran negocio

Con streaming de video Dailymotion, sitio que ofrece el libre Ogg Theora, formato de vídeo, la FSF insta a otros sitios de vídeo para seguir. Dailymotion ha transcodificado más de 300.000 vídeos al formato libre Ogg Theora, que producira y exhibira, sin necesidad de plugins, en las últimas generaciones web de navegadores software libre.

## Gnash Summerbash

Si bien es un gran proyecto en tamaño y alcance, todos hemos conseguido aportar algunos valiosas piezas a nivel individual.

## Prácticas gnash, informe final

Hola compañeros entusiastas del software libre!

La semana pasada en el blog del proyecto gnash tuve la oportunidad de presentarles a algunos de los miembros del equipo, lo que les dio una idea de lo que estamos trabajando actualmente.

Estoy orgulloso del informe, de los distintos niveles de éxito en todo el tablero!

Nosotros (los internos) estamos ahora trabajando en la limpieza de cabos sueltos, y convertir en definitivas y fijas nuestras contribuciones al código.

Esto continuará en la próxima semana, que es la última semana de la pasantia gnash "Summerbash" .

El líder de los pasantes, Rob Savoye, establecio la planificación para la liberacion de gnash a finales de agosto, lo que significa que todo debe estar limpio y ordenado antes de esas fechas.

## Las promesas vacias de Microsoft

Desde que Richard (Stallman) publicó sobre Mono, algunas personas se han ido preguntando por qué nos estamos haciendo una especial preocupación por el software libre al confiar en los desarrolladores de C # y Mono, en vez de otros idiomas. ## Coalition launches petition demanding that Amazon drop DRM from the Kindle

The Free Software Foundation's Defective By Design campaign, in cooperation with prominent authors, journalists, and librarians, has launched a petition against the Amazon Kindle's use of digital restrictions management (DRM).

## Free Software Foundation calls upon Amazon to free their ebook reader

The Free Software Foundation welcomed the apology issued by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, as negative reviews by the Defective by Design DRM elimination crew criticizing the Kindle's use of proprietary software and Digital Restrictions Management to remotely delete ebooks continued to pour in, but said the problem would not be solved until Amazon dropped DRM entirely.

## Canada's Auditor General falls into "intellectual property" trap

The annual report of Canada's Auditor General makes an important and unfortunate mistake: condoning use of the marketing phrase "intellectual property." This uotation shows how this term has led to inaccurate generalization: "Intellectual property is a valuable asset that can be bought, sold, licensed, lost, or stolen" -- that is false: there is no way to steal a copyright or a patent. Suppose I have a copyright: how could you possibly steal it? You might conceivably claim it fraudulently, but fraud is not theft.

## GNU Generation: Calling all pre-university students

GNU Generation is a new project sponsored by the Free Software Foundation to involve high school age students in free software. Participants will have the opportunity to get involved with the free software community, and win some prizes!

## RMS: How the Swedish Pirate Party platform backfires on free software

FSF president Richard Stallman explains the unintended interactions between the Swedish Pirate Party's platform and free software in his new article, "How the Swedish Pirate Party Platform Backfires on Free Software." Because free software currently relies on copyleft to protect software freedom, while proprietary software has other means beyond copyright to keep users restricted (like patents and EULAs), eliminating copyright would protect proprietary software and hurt free software. Users would never get to have the source code of the proprietary software, while proprietary software companies would be able to openly pillage from the free world.

## Dailymotion's Support for Ogg is a Big Deal

With video streaming site Dailymotion offering the free Ogg Theora video format, FSF urges other video sites to follow. Dailymotion has transcoded over 300,000 videos to the free Ogg Theora format, which will play without the need for plugins in the latest free software web browsers. Dailymotion is among the world's largest video streaming sites, making this a major advance for Ogg Theora format.

Greetings again from colorful Colorado, the home of the Gnash "Summerbash" internship, where five interns have been working on this FSF high-priority project for a few weeks now. While it's a large project in size and scope, we have all managed to contribute some valuable pieces at an individual level.

## Gnash Internship final report

Hello fellow free software enthusiasts! Last week on the Gnash project blog I took the chance to introduce you to some of the team members, and gave you an idea of what we were currently working on. I am proud to report various levels of success across the board! We (the interns) are now cleaning up loose ends, and turning in final fixes to our code contributions. This will continue into next week, which is the last week of the Gnash "Summerbash" internship. The Leader Of The Interns, Rob Savoye, is planning on a Gnash release at the end of August, which means everything needs to be clean and tidy before then.

## Microsoft's Empty Promise

Since we published Richard's article about Mono, some people have been asking us why we're expressing special concern about free software developers relying on C# and Mono, instead of other languages. Sun probably has patents that cover Java. Maybe IBM has patents that cover C compilers. "Shouldn't we discourage the use of these too?" they ask.
